Ironically, this is my great hope right now. Most societies have cultural strengths and weaknesses. I could go on forever about US cultural weaknesses, but our ornery individualism can sometimes be a strength, and this is that time. I am heartened by the protests if only because it shows that millions of ornery Americans, left and right, are not ready to be cowed into silence and submission.

Kinda think you're leaving out the possible of a massive breakdown, wheyher caused by nuclear war, some massive ecological event probably resulting from climate change, or snarl-ups in the delicate globalized supply chain and generalized economic system, because it has been run largely by the US, which is now run by morons--and it's been a terrible system for the global majority, you don't acknowledge whose backs the "greatest prosperity the world has ever known" was built on. I agree with your prescription but think there is little likelihoon of it coming to pass because it would require unity, and public opinion is easily directed by those who own the media.
