Blue Shirt: Did you see the news about the breakthrough in fusion?
Green Shirt: Yeah, pretty cool. Hopefully, things progress faster than we thought.
Blue Shirt: Wouldn’t that be bad for your blog though … if all of this got solved?
Green Shirt: I’m not rooting for things to be bad. I’m writing about it.
Blue Shirt: But if things get better, you could be out of a job.
Green Shirt: Good.
Blue Shirt: Good?
Green Shirt: If a Cancer doctor can cure cancer, does he do it, or refuse to because it would put him out of a job?
Blue Shirt: You’re no cancer doctor.
Green Shirt: No, I’m just one person writing a blog that a small amount of people read. But hopefully, that helps ideas spread faster, and things get better.
Blue Shirt: But if things get solved, a lot of people will be out of jobs.
Green Shirt: Most of them would be happy to. There are many problems and even if we have fusion tomorrow, there will still be a lot of work to be done.
Blue Shirt: Do you think some people will be upset if things get solved?
Green Shirt: Maybe, but I don’t listen to those people.
Blue Shirt: How can you tell the difference?
Green Shirt: It’s easy.
Blue Shirt: How?
Green Shirt: Do people define themselves by what they hate or what they love? If it’s what they hate, you can stop listening to them. They don’t want a solution. If it is what they love, go talk to them, and listen. They want to find a solution, and they probably need help.
This is fantastic, Matt! Thank you. Actually the part about your blog reaching only a few people inspires me greatly. My newspapers only reached a few people and I got discouraged and am on sabbatical now but this feeling of yours, boosts mine. Maybe I'll go back to newspapering? If you'd like to see my last issue, please email me and I'll send it to you.
