Woman: “What’s with the Veggie-Burger?”
Man: “I’m off beef now. I saw the carbon footprint of beef and thought I should cut it out of my diet.”
Woman: “That’s good …”
Man: “But what?”
Woman: “But what, what?”
Man: “There was a pause at the end there. Like you were about to say … but.”
Woman: “But what?”
Man: “But … switching off beef isn’t enough.”
Woman: “It is good, but … there is more.”
Man: “Let me have it.”
Woman: “What if it ends our friendship?”
Man: “No chance. I’m a big boy. Let me have it.”
Woman: “Do you compost?”
Man: “No.”
Woman: “Do you recycle?”
Man: “Yes!”
Woman: “Do you only buy things in compostable, or plastic containers that can be recycled? Do you rinse out your food containers before you recycle them?”
Man: Silence.
Woman: “Do you buy fruits and veggies that have to fly across oceans to get to you?”
Man: “I don’t know.”
Woman: “Do you buy grapes in the Winter?”
Man: “I love grapes.”
Woman: “Your grapes have airline miles.”
Man: “I have to give up grapes.”
Woman: “If they need a passport, walk on.”
Man: “Ugh.”
Woman: “Do you eat seasonally?”
Man: “I don’t know what that means.”
Woman: “Look it up. I’ll help you.”
Man: Head in his hands.
Woman: “Do you get organic whenever possible.”
Man: “I do if it’s less expensive.”
Woman: “Which is …?”
Man: “Never.”
Woman: “Do you buy as much as possible locally?”
Man: “At the local grocery store?”
Woman: “From local producers. Some grocery stores do that, but I’m thinking of a farmers’ market.”
Man: “I don’t think we have one of those here.”
Woman: Death stare.
Man: “What?”
Woman: “There are four different farmer’s markets in and around this city, and one of them is going on right now … outside of this restaurant. You walked right by it to get here.”
Man: “Remember what I said about nothing being able to end our friendship?”
Woman: “Yeah.”
Man: “It’s a good thing you’re my sister.”

Thank you Anxious Doodles. Please share with others if you think they would benefit from it.
Yes, it can be a full time job, but it doesn't need to be. The default choices need to be better, which gets down to culture and policy/regulation. The system needs to be constructed better - which is what I'll be writing about next.
