I got two job offers. The first is a junior investment banker in New York. The second is a running a bioregional finance facility in Kenya.
I’m guessing the one in New York pays a lot more?
Yes, about four times more. I’ll be a junior investment banker working 100 hours a week for the first year, then they fire half of those who don’t cut it. Even then I’m still decades from the top levels. I’d be helping to finance the further financialization of the world and working on deals that help finance the self-destruction of humanity.
Or I could be the head of a small bioregional financing startup that is looking to invest in business that will protect the local watershed in my home country.
And ?
I have to take the junior investment banker role.
Makes sense.
