I’m getting a job right out of school that will get me on the career track to middle management.
Me too. I look forward to working for decades at unfulfilling jobs that are not needed by society. Yet I will feel compelled to put that job above my family and other social connections because I must get ahead and help the economy grow. If I do not strive, I will let my country, my family, and myself down.
I’m going to work at a job that is personally fulfilling, gives me a sense of purpose, helps people build social connections, and only requires me to work four days a week.
But you will be poor.
I’ll be poorer than you. But I’ll be fine.
Is that allowed?
That is not allowed.
Here’s to putting our heads down and pursuing a career path that is unfulfilling, unnecessary, and helps to perpetuate a system that obscenely concentrates wealth and destroys our planet.
Hurray!!!
Maybe I should just throw this away.
Thanks for the laugh. I just read in the paper how 'Today, the most popular degree is business, at 19% of all bachelor's degrees, while social sciences trail far behind at just 8% of the degrees. ' Then (not sure which school) had finance--1,400 students, Marketing 1,200 as the top number of student majors. Oy-- how do we turn this ship around!
Don’t give up, Mission-Driven Girl, you’re leading the way and demonstrating how to look at “generating value and wealth” differently, all while not trading your limited time for money in a corporate system that separates itself from social and environmental responsibility while conflating short-term shareholder approval with long-term business strategy.
