“Hey global economy, how’s it going?”
“Hey, Turritopsis dohrnii, good to see you. Things are chugging along.”
“Have you thought about what we talked about last time?”
“Yeah, but I don’t think I can shrink. That would be too disruptive. People expect a little growth each year and would get very angry if that didn’t happen.”
“But I’m worried about you. If you continue at this pace, at some point, maybe soon, you are likely to break down. You can’t grow forever.”
“Like you.”
“I can’t grow forever. I can live forever. That’s the difference. To live forever, every once in a while, I have to shrink down and go back to an earlier stage of life and start over.”
“It’s getting a little harder every year to grow. It would be nice to slow down.”
“Maybe try it. I think it would be good for you in the long run.”
“I’ll think about it.”
