“Did you see that if you take out the wealthiest 10% in America and Europe, those in Europe are economically better off than those in the US? The bottom 90% in Europe are richer than their counterparts in America.”
“I’m not surprised by those findings.”
“When you factor in social safety nets available to your average European citizen like universal healthcare, generous family leave and generous pensions, you wonder why the bottom 90% in the US aren’t more upset about the current state of things.”
“They don’t know. All they see are GDP numbers and think they have the best lives in the world.”
“You know I’m originally French right? Can I … come back?”
“France has birthright citizenship, so we would have to take you back. But we wouldn’t be happy about it. We’d maybe put you on Corsica.”

Thanks for a laugh amid a serious day.
I'm wondering if these facts hold true for Canada or are we soon headed that way as Trump offers us opportunity to become the 51st state?
I was born in the U.S. and grew up with Canadian parents who somehow were taken in by the promises of the American Dream. Treated like low class Oakies they discovered the hard reality of that illusion.
I am now seeing among my fellow Canadians endearment toward Trump and his policies. But as P.T. Barnum was said: "There's a sucker born every minute."
