Coffee Mug Guy: “Data Dan, that was great work last week on the press release about victims of Hurricane Helene. That got us some good press.”
Data Dan: “More importantly, we donated water, generators, and food to communities hardest hit by the storm.”
Coffee Mug Guy: “Yeah, that was good too. Could you start working on a press release for Hurricane Martin? It is supposed to be stronger than Helene and headed directly for Florida.”
Data Dan: “I’ll look into the same level of donations as we did with Helene.”
Coffee Mug Guy: “Um, I don’t think we have the budget for that. That might have to wait for the next fiscal year.”
Data Dan: “The people in Florida will need those supplies this week. We are also a tech company with a huge carbon footprint from our data centers and work in AI. I think it’s a bad look to be stingy helping people who are suffering from a problem we helped cause.”
Coffee Mug Guy: “It’s a difficult situation. But we just don’t have the budget for that now.”
Kyle: “Boss, have you seen this story about how Hurricane Helene may have done significant damage to the high-quality quartz mines in North Carolina that the world depends on for semiconductors, solar panels, and AI?”
Coffee Mug Guy: “Change of plans Dan. Start a draft for the bailout we will be asking for from Washington.”
