In medicine, triage is a process by which doctors determine the order of priority for providing treatment to injured individuals and the rationing of limited supplies so that they go to those who need them most.
Triage is relied upon when there are more injured individuals than available care providers or when there are more injured individuals than supplies to treat them.
Triage is used when the hospital can’t handle the injured coming in the door, and choices have to be made that will ultimately decide who has a chance to live, and who dies.
We have already entered the triage phase of climate change and environmental overshoot.
yes, we need triage. But not of people, that's barbaric. We need to look at what infrastructure we should abandon and stop trying to maintain (e.g some roads), and what activities we should give up (e.g. leisure travel; luxury goods). Fact is, we are triaging people by default - by allowing global heating to continue, and failing to assist those affected most severely, and not allocating resources to help them adapt. Degrowth is supposed to be about redistribution of resources - that means aid for those who need it, even at the cost of our privileged comforts. Anything less is barbaric
I could never say I "liked" this posting, but it sure is accurate!
