There were 138 sovereign nations on Earth 50 years ago in 1974.
There are 195 sovereign nations on Earth today.
What will our maps look like 50 years from now in 2074?
Keep in mind that for the past 50 years, we experienced plenty of political volatility, but the global climate was relatively stable. Add in cascading environmental tipping points we will cross in the next 50 years and what do you get? Wherever you are reading this, they map you know of your country will likely be different, and we aren’t just talking a bit of lost coastline.
This is a good question…. But if we look back on the last 50 years very little has changed with the climate, so why would we expect the progression not to continue at the same rate or even better for humankind.
On every metric the climate impact on humans has been positive with clear data from solid sources showing reduction or not much change in extreme weather, fires, sea level, etc. And we continue to see a greening of the planet with crop yields and human flourishing continuing. Also, our use of technology continues to reduce the deaths due to any adverse climate issues. So other than some focused adaption using the power of Fossil fuels makes it hard to see the need for any climate mitigation efforts.
This is the informed opinion growing in both the scientific community and the population.
These are the questions for which we need clear responses before we take any further action.
